Highlights From Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week
It’s the city of lights, love, and best of all fashion. The best way to end fashion month is with Paris.  This is where designers take a big risk to showcase their new looks for fall/winter 2020.  On the runways, some designers embraced upcycling and responsible resourcing in their designs.  Other designers embraced a way of dressing up with sequins and ballroom gowns. There were many show-stopping designs and runway shows in Paris but here are the top six highlights from the week.

Chanel
The collection was designed by Virginie Viard, the French fashion designer currently directing Chanel.  The designs were almost entirely black and white, with the exception of pale green and coral pink.  They were clean, simple and romantic. The classic Chanel tweed skirts, suits, and LBD’s were still present in the show but with more emphasis on shorts and trousers.  The Chanel autumn/winter show was glamorous with a powerful ending of three models walking out in the couture showing the unity and the power of women.

Miu Miu
This collection, designed by Miuccia Prada, it was titled “Toying with elegance.” It was very cheerful designs focused on the pleasure of fashion.  The collection was mainly about bringing eveningwear into the everyday life of a woman.  It featured satin dresses under trench coats, a put-together suit, feathery dresses and so much more.

Alexander McQueen
Sarah Burton and the McQueen team took a trip to Pembrokeshire in Wales. They went there to find information and inspiration for the new season collection.  Red, in Welsh traditions, is believed to scare off evil. This color was present in the whole collection.  The team actually designed the collection with all the models wearing a red headband.  The show featured beautiful lace dresses in red, a sleek look, sharp suiting, prints, ruffles and leather.

Dior
The show symbolized woman empowerment.  The show opened with a tailored pantsuit followed by puffer jackets, combat boots, checker print, ties, denim jackets, and an important tee shirt with an important message.  The shirt said “I Say I,” which is a phrase that also means “You Do You.”  Designer Chiuri,  designed the clothing for women to embrace their new lifestyles.

Stella McCartney
Perhaps one of the most known designers for sustainability and responsible resourcing.  The collection was animal-free.  In the show, a rabbit, cow, fox, and dog handed out baby trees to the guest for them to plant and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide.  The collection was neutral and chic while showcasing vegan leather and faux fur.

Chloé
Golden sculptures by Marion Verboom decorated the runway while Byron’s poem “She Walks in Beauty” along with other poems were read for the show.  The show was a collaboration with the artist to show their creativity. The collection included the iconic tailoring, blouses, and romantic dresses.  The suits had a more 70’s vibe and blouses adorned with jewels were seen on the runway.
